Even in today’s age, people still raise their eyebrows when a woman is chosen for what many think is a man’s job. In the case of Sandi Vito, many likely had a similar reaction when she was appointed as Department of Labor & Industry for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. But in just a short period of time, Vito was more than able to prove that she was the best choice for the job. Her educational background is more than sufficient, with an Economics degree earned from the respectable Stockton State University. To acquire specialized skills, she also enrolled at Temple University and took up Community & Regional Planning & Urban Studies.
The work experience that Sandi Vito brings to the table is also more than comprehensive. Being DLI Secretary was not her first job in the department. Prior to her promotion, she was actually assigned in the Workforce Development as Deputy Secretary. One of her tasks in those days was to partner with job Ready PA and their combined efforts were credited for the impressive results of Governor Rendell’s economic growth strategy. Without vital work produced by Vito in the DLI, the governor’s strategy would not have been as effective in providing better job opportunities that promised greater pay especially for those with better or advanced skill sets. Ultimately, job Ready PA from Vito did not just revitalize the workforce development system of the state. It revolutionized it and played a critical role in the establishment of Industry Partnerships. With such achievements made clear, no one had doubts any longer about the rightness of having Vito head the DLI.
